Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 3 / Trend N. Ismayilova /

The WB has reviewed a project to restore transmission lines in Azerbaijan, the WB Baku office told Trend today.

"It was earlier planned to extend the project implementation until April 2012 to conduct testing and commissioning operations," the office said. "However, there was no need. The project was successfully completed in January."

The WB allocated $48 million with a total cost of $55.4 million for the project. The government transferred $7.4 million to finance the project.

The WB Board of Directors approved the allocation of funds for the project in May 2005. Its implementation began in March 2006. The project aims to modernize supervisory control systems for electric power (SCADA). It also helps to ensure the reliability, stability and
efficiency of the power sector.

Azerbaijan has been a WB member since 1992. The bank's total liabilities on 43 projects during this period are about $2.9 billion.
