Gazprom to assess gas content of Uzbekistan’s Kumoy area
Uzbekistan, Tashkent, March 7 / Trend D.Azizov /
Gazprom International, operating division of the foreign projects of JSC Gazprom has started testing a second exploration well drilled in the prospective area of Kumoy on the Ustyurt plateau in Uzbekistan, the company's statement said on Wednesday.
Six productive horizons were discovered at the Kumoy-2 well with a depth of 4170 metres which are to be tested. The company plans to assess its prospects before the end of this year.
'Following these works which are expected to be completed before the end of the year, the first assessment of the prospects for gas content will be made. According to preliminary data, the productive facilities consist of high-methane gas with an extremely low content of hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide', the statement said.
TheKumoy area is located within the Shakhpahti investment block, 25 kilometres from the Gelle gas field discovered in 2009 and located 235 kilometres from the main Central Asia - Centre gas pipeline.
Expected resources in the field are about six billion cubic meters of gas and over 40,000 tons of gas condensate.
A full range of exploration work was carried out at the Shakhpahti block as part of a five-year programme of geological study announced by Gazprom International earlier this year.
It was reported earlier that 2D seismic work was carried out on the field to 7.700 running kilometres and 3D for 600 square kilometres as well as the interpretation of a seismic data, gravity research and aeromagnetic survey over 3000 square kilometres where 20 exploration wells on seven investment block were drilled.
In general, about $400 million have been invested in exploration in the Ustyurt region of Uzbekistan since 2006.
The company is currently preparing a report on the calculation of reserves of natural gas and gas condensate at the Gelle field for its subsequent protection in the State Commission for Reserves under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan.
Along with the exploration programme, Gazprom International carries out development and redevelopment of the Shakhpakhty field in Karakalpakstan under the PSA.
In accordance with the agreement on principles of geological exploration of the investment units of the Ustyurt region, signed between Gazprom and the Government of Uzbekistan in 2006, Gazprom was granted the exclusive right for further development of new hydrocarbon fields under production sharing agreements (PSAs).
