SOCAR announces plans to build oil base in Georgia

In the near future, SOCAR Energy Georgia, which represents the interests of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Georgia, plans to begin the construction of the oil base, a source at SOCAR told Trend on Friday.

The source said the construction of a new oil base will be completed before the end of 2013.
"At least $3 million will be spent for the construction work," the source said.

Design work has already been completed, area for the construction work has been prepared, all necessary permits were also obtained and documentation prepared.

Oil base will be located near the Tbilisi international airport. Company acquired five hectares of land worth nearly $3 million in 2008 in order to carry out the construction.

Twenty four tanks with a total capacity of 20.5 thousand tons will be located at the oil base. Light petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel will be kept in them. Four tanks with a total capacity of 1200 cubic meters (300,000 on each) will also be placed for the storage of liquefied gas. The project involves the construction of tar pit with a capacity of three thousand tons. All these products will be sold on the Georgian market.
