Iran’s daily CNG supply capacity hits 50mcm

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in Iran have the capacity to supply some 50 million cubic meters (mcm) of CNG per day, Mehr news agency reported.

For the time being, about 1,360 CNG stations are in operation across the country, and the figure is projected to increase to 2,000 by the end of the current calendar year (March 19), the report added.

Some 710 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations will be established in Iran, increasing the number of stations to 2,530 by the end of the next calendar year (March 20, 2013), National Iranian Oil Production and Distribution Company (NIOPDC) managing director said in January.

Some 2.6 million gas-powered cars are in operation in Iran and the number of CNG stations is around 1,820. That is why, international standards propose a CNG station for 850 cars, NIOPDC head Jalil Salari said, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting reported.

He added that by March 2015, gas-engine cars will account for 25 percent of total cars in the country.
