SOCAR announces plans for gasification in Georgia

The number of new (potential) subscribers will reach 200,000 in the frame of the gasification of Georgia implemented by SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan), a source at SOCAR Energy Georgia told Trend on Monday.

More than 125 thousand subscribers were provided by gas in the frame of the program at the end of 2012.

SOCAR Energy Georgia represents SOCAR in Georgia.

The source said $106 million is invested in the program of gasification. Additional $60 million is planned to invest for the implementation of the program and reconstruction work.

Earlier, the contract on a three-year program of gasification of the country signed between SOCAR and the government of Georgia, has been extended for another year.

Under a contract signed with the Government of Georgia, the company SOCAR Georgia Gas (a subsidiary company of SOCAR Energy Georgia) has gasified at least 150 000 new (potential) customers and invest at least $ 40 million in the gasification process in the country. However, it turned out that investment significantly exceed this amount.

On Dec. 26, SOCAR and the Georgia Government signed an agreement to operate 30 gas supply grids and gas distribution networks in the Kakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Shida and Kvemo Kartli, Ajaria, Guria, Imereti, Samegrelo regions of Georgia. In April, SOCAR Energy Georgia acquired a gas distribution network in the Marneuli region populated by Azerbaijani community.

The source said all of the above farm had previously been eliminated, and seven regional gas holdings under management of SOCAR was formed on their place.
