SOCAR studies capital-intensive project in Azerbaijan

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) conducts preparatory work within creating an up-to-date center for waste recycling and management, a source in SOCAR told Trend on Friday.
"This is enough capital-intensive project, and therefore, it requires thorough study," the source said.
He said only after taking an investment decision it will be possible to speak about order of the necessary equipment and selection of the company, which will deal with creating the new center. The source did not disclose date of a decision to allocate funds for this project.
Earlier, the U.S. company MI-LLC prepared and submitted a feasibility study for construction of waste recycling and management center to the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR). In the future, it is envisaged to improve waste management system within this project.
As SOCAR's vice-president for ecology Rafiga Huseynzade told Trend earlier, sludge landfill began operating in 1985 and at present does not meet up-to-date ecological requirements. Therefore, it was decided to reconstruct it.
The new center will focus on refining oil sludge and about 62 types of solid and industrial waste.
