Azerbaijan, Baku, April 16 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

SOCAR considers the opportunities of providing the Baku distribution system with gas supplies from a single point, a source at SOCAR told Trend on Monday.

"This opportunity is considered in connection with SOCAR's plans to build a new gas processing plant within the establishment of the oil and gas processing and petrochemical production complex in the country," the source said.

Accordingly, all gas volumes will be received by the new plant, processed and delivered to the distribution network in a purified form for consumers' use, the source said.

At present, gas is supplied to the capital from three directions - Garadagh, Hovsani and Zikh and 27 different points.

In case of implementing the possibility of gas supplies from one point, all the necessary safety measures will be ensured. A special automatic security and early warning system will be created. Bypass and reserve gas pipelines will be created.

"All this will ensure a high level of security," the source said.

The oil and gas processing plant with a capacity of 10 million tons and 10 billion cubic meters per year, respectively is planned to be commissioned within the project. The project also includes petrochemical production, aimed at creating about 2 million tons of base polymers annually. It is also planned to build offsite facilities, including stand-alone power unit for the new complex. In general, the configuration of the complex will include approximately 30 units with more than 20 technology licenses.

The complex will be located 60 kilometers from Baku. It is planned to be commissioned by late 2020.
