Kazakhstan continues to negotiate with Russia on a possible reduction in gas supply to the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant after construction of its own gas processing plant, Novosti-Kazakhstan quotes Kazakh Oil and Gas Minister Sauat Mynbayev as saying during online conference on the BNews portal.

"If we build our gas processing plant, gas supplies to Orenburg GPP will be reduced by five billion cubic meters," - Mynbayev said.

Kazakhstan plans to build its own gas processing plant in the Western Kazakhstan region to process gas from the Karachaganak field. Currently, gas from Karachaganak is processed in Orenburg GPP in Russia.

Meanwhile, according to Mynbayev, Kazakhstan will supply part of its gas to Orenburg GPP even after construction of its own GPP.

Karachaganak field is one of the largest operating oil and gas fields in the world. It has 1.2 billion tons of oil and condensate and more than 1.35 trillion cubic meters of gas. About 45 percent of gas and 18 percent of oil produced in Kazakhstan are extracted from this field.
