Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) will be ready in time to transport first gas produced within Azerbaijani Shah Deniz II project, Kjetil Tungland, Managing Director of TAP said at the 19th International Oil and Gas conference in Baku on Thursday.

"We will be ready to transport gas from the second stage of the Shah Deniz field development in 2018, if the first volumes within this project are produced in 2017," Tungland said.

Tungland said that in order to be able to do this, TAP will begin the construction of the pipeline no later 2014 or 2015.

Talking about the advantages of TAP, Tungland said that 10 billion cubic meters of Shah Deniz II gas can be easily pushed by having only two compressor stations.

"By adding two more compressor stations we can expand the pipeline's capacity to 20 billion cubic meters," Tungland said.

Among the advantages of TAP Tungland also mentioned the pipeline's reverse flow capability.

TAP is one of the Southern Gas Corridor projects, designed to transport gas from the Caspian region via Greece and Albania and across the Adriatic Sea to southern Italy and further into Western Europe. Gas to be produced within the second phase of Azerbaijani Shah Deniz gas condensate field development is considered as the main source for TAP.

The 19th Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference, the Caspian Region's largest oil and gas exhibition, is taking place from 5 to 8 June 2012 at the Baku Expo Centre in Azerbaijan.
