The number of new gas subscribers in Georgia will reach 250,000 by 2015 within the gasification program implementation in the country, Georgian Deputy Energy and Natural Resources Minister Marika Valishvili told Trend over phone on Tuesday.

"In total 250,000 new subscribers will be provided with gas by 2015," Valishvili said.

Valishvili stressed that the program on Georgian regions gasification is being implemented by two gas distribution companies - Azerbaijani SOCAR and Itera Georgia. The third of all new gas subscribers in the country will fall to Itera Georgia, other part will be provided with gas by SOCAR.

According to the approved gasification plan, 80,000 new subscribers will be provided with gas in 2012.

"The list of settlements planned to be gasified in 2012 has already been approved. It includes mainly settlements of Semegrelo, Adjara region and part of Kakheti," Valishvili said.

In 2013 about 80,000 new subscribers will be supplied with gas too. However, the list of settlements has not been determined yet, she said.

Valishvili said that gasification will be implemented in all settlements with acceptable commercial and technical conditions. The program will not be implemented in the highlands due to high expensiveness and low profitability.
