Erdogan: Azerbaijan, Turkey will make significant contribution to ensuring Europe's energy security

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 26 / Trend A.Taghiyeva /

Azerbaijan and Turkey will make a significant contribution to ensuring Europe's energy security through implementation of Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP), Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, the TRT Haber TV channel reported.

Erdogan said TANAP will allow to transport through Turkey to Europe gas from the second stage of development of Azerbaijani Shah Deniz gas condensate field. In addition, this project will allow to supply not only gas of Shah Deniz, but of other gas fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, as well as will create the possibility of transportation through this route of Turkmen gas, Erdogan said.

In December 2011, Azerbaijan and Turkey signed a memorandum of understanding to establish the consortium that will build a gas pipeline to supply gas from Shah Deniz gas field to Europe through Turkey. BOTAS has a 20 per cent stake in TANAP, while SOCAR holds 80 per cent in the project.

The initial capacity of the pipeline will be 16 billion cubic meters. Some 6 billion cubic meters of the volume will be supplied to Turkey, while the rest will be transported to Europe.
