Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 6 / Trend A.Taghiyeva /

Gas exported to Jordan does not cover the country's needs, so it plans to increase liquefied natural gas imports. An international tender will be announced soon, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Alaa Al Batayneh said.

The minister added that the Jordanian government has allocated $340 million to gas projects by the end of 2012.

The minister also noted that Jordan intends to conduct gas field exploration in the country. For this purpose, an agreement was signed with the BP worth $230 million.

Earlier, former Prime Minister Al-Aoun Hasavana said Jordan will lose another $2 billion during the year if disruptions from Egypt continue.

In 2011, the Egyptian section of the Pan-Arab gas pipeline was the target of terrorist attacks. The explosion occurred at the section of the gas pipeline near El Arish in February. Gas supplies to Israel and Jordan were suspended for over a month and resumed on March 16.

Earlier, representative of the Jordanian Energy Ministry Mahmoud Al-Eys told Trend that Jordan is interested in increasing gas supplies to the country and the Azerbaijani gas is of big interest for Jordan.
