The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will drill three new wells within increasing volume of gas pumping into underground gas storage facilities in Azerbaijan, a source in SOCAR told Trend on Tuesday.
There are two underground gas storage facilities in Azerbaijan - Kalmaz and Garadagh.
He said in particular, a new well will be drilled in the Garadagh underground gas storage facility, and the rest will be drilled in Kalmaz.
"In the near future drilling of the new well will be completed in the Kalmaz gas storage facility.
At present, its depth exceeds 1,900 meters," the source said.
It is expected that gas volume in underground gas storage facilities in Azerbaijan in the pumping season this year may reach 3.5-3.7 billion cubic meters.
During last year's pumping season, volume of gas in the country's underground gas storage facilities amounted to about 3.25 billion cubic meters of gas compared to 3.05 billion cubic meters in the previous year.
