Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 4 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

SOCAR's ecology department has conducted monitoring in six Azerbaijani regions as part of the preparation of a report on an environmental impact assessment and two-dimensional seismic survey. This is on the basis of an agreement between SOCAR and Conoco Phillips Exploration Azerbaijan Ltd on a joint research project on Azerbaijani onshore areas, the department said on Monday.

In particular, monitoring was held in Shamakhi, Ismayilli, Gabala, Agdash, Goychay and Agsu regions.

According to the report the monitoring included several species in the 'Red Book' being revealed. Closer scrutiny will be paid to them during the two-dimensional studies.

Two-dimensional studies are part of a joint research agreement signed between the parties. An environmental impact assessment (EIA) is required in accordance with legislative acts.

The department won the tender for the preparation of the EIA announced by ConocoPhillips. The contract area is approximately eight square kilometres and covers regions such as Gakh, Sheki, Oguz, Gabala, Ismayilli, Shamakhi, Mereze, Kurdemir, Agsu, Goychay, Yevlakh and Mingechevir (north-western parts of the country).

In July last year SOCAR and ConocoPhilips signed an 'Agreement on the conduct of joint research as part of preparatory exploration work on Azerbaijani onshore'.
