Commissioning of two urea production plants will make the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) a major producer of these products in the region, SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev said at a meeting with the participants of the Summer School, organized by SOCAR.
He said that until the end of 2012 it is planned to complete the process of selecting a contractor of building and to start construction of a new plant for the production of urea in Sumgait.
SOCAR plans to build a similar plant in Georgia. Given both companies with annual production of over one million tons per year SOCAR will become a major producer of urea, Abdullayev said.
Annual design capacity of urea plant in Sumgait will be about 600,000 of urea per year (2,000 tons per day).
Funds for the construction of the plant will be allocated from the state budget, as the plant will be built under the State program for reliable provision of population with food in 2008-2015.
In order to implement this project SOCAR within three years was doing research in this field. In this regard, the State Oil Company experts have studied the experience of other countries that have already created urea production. In particular, in the preparation of the project the SOCAR experts visited Egypt, Iran, and also traveled to Amman.
Urea is environmentally friendly and the most common form of nitrogen fertilizer. It is safe in terms of operation and is not harmful to health.
