Turkmenistan estimates its hydrocarbon reserves in 71.6 billion of oil equivalent

Total hydrocarbon resources of Turkmenistan amounted to 71.6 billion of oil equivalent, including 20.8 billion tons of oil and 50.8 trillion cubic meters of gas, Minister of Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan Kakageldy Abdullayev said at the conference Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat on Thursday.

He noted that hundreds of prospective oil and gas structures revealed in Turkmenistan, about 160 deposits were opened and about 60 of them are developed in Turkmenistan.

The main gas reserves are located in the east of the country in the Mary region, the largest deposit is Galkynysh with reserves of more than 26 trillion cubic meters of gas.

There are 11 billion tons of oil and 5.5 trillion cubic meters of gas in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, excluding already contracted blocks. Total resources of the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea are estimated at 12 billion tons of oil and 6.5 trillion cubic meters of gas.

BP noted that the country ranks fourth in the world after Russia, Iran and Qatar by gas reserves.

Among the planned gas pipelines from Turkmenistan are an additional to Russia (Caspian gas pipeline - through Kazakhstan), Europe (Trans-Caspian gas pipeline - as part of Nabucco or AGRI - via the Caspian Sea through Azerbaijan) and India (Trans-Afghan gas pipeline via Pakistan). At this stage, the country exports the fuel to China, Iran and Russia.
