Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Sept 14 /Trend H.Hasanov/

Turkmenistan has called on the CIS to enhance energy cooperation, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov said during the meeting with head of the CIS Executive Committee Sergei Lebedev, who visited Ashgabat to attend the meeting of the CIS Economic Council, the Turkmen government said on Friday.

Berdymuhamedov focused on the "possible common ground of mutual interests," stressing that "the establishment of close direct contacts in the energy, economic and trade spheres is an absolute priority of cooperation among members of the organization."

Turkmen leader also confirmed that Ashgabat for its part is ready to consider offers from potential partners, who are interested in joint projects for the development and production of hydrocarbons.

At the same time, it is obvious that Ashgabat is mainly interested in early withdrawal of its energy to Europe. At this stage, the traditional line through Russia works below its potential, and the Trans-Caspian project is still under consideration.
The main gas suppliers to world markets in the CIS are Russia and Turkmenistan.
