Operations for oil and gas exploration in North Cyprus will continue on land, the Anadolu agency quotes Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz as saying on Tuesday.

Yildiz said that drilling on land will be additional, after which it will continue in the sea.

Turkey actively searches for oil and gas fields to reduce dependence on foreign supplies. Great hopes were rested on the recent exploration operations in the Sinop area, but the results proved negative.

After Nicosia (Greek Cyprus) began working to develop the shelf near the shores of the island, divided into Greek and Turkish parts, Turkey together with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus began exploring oil and gas in the special economic zone of Northern Cyprus.
