Ankara is holding talks with Saudi Arabia, Libya and Russia to increase oil imports from these countries in exchange for Iranian oil, the Sabah newspaper quotes Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz as saying on Thursday.

"Because of a decline in oil supply from Iran, we are in negotiations with other countries such as Saudi Arabia, Libya and Russia so that Turkey does not experience an oil shortage," Yildiz said.

Oil imports to Turkey in July 2012 decreased by 22 per cent compared to the previous month amounting to 1.4 million tons, the Energy Market Regulatory Authority of Turkey (EPDK) said earlier.

Oil imports in January-July 2012 decreased by 1.8 per cent compared to the same period of 2011 and amounted to 10.6 million tons.

Turkey imports an annual eight million tons of oil and eight billion cubic meters of gas from Iran.
