Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept.20 / Trend V. Zhavoronkova /

The negotiations on the Trans Caspian gas pipeline will continue in a constructive atmosphere, a source in the Energy Department of the European commission told Trend on Thursday.

"The negotiations on a Trilateral Agreement on the Trans Caspian pipeline are currently still on-going and will continue in a constructive atmosphere," the source said.

He added that high-level, as well as expert level meetings in this regard will continue in the month but no new dates have been scheduled yet.

The source mentioned that the visit of EU Energy Commissioner Gunter Oettinger to Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in early September took place in this context.

"The Commission cannot provide further information on the state of the play of the negotiations at this stage," the source said.

The purpose of his visit was to discuss the issue of gas transportation to Europe, based on the mandate received by the Council.

"The Commission has always said in the context of the Southern Gas Corridor that it wants to see a dedicated, scalable pipeline because not only gas expected to come from Azerbaijan, but also from Turkmenistan through the Trans Caspian Pipeline that is currently being discussed," the source added.

Trans-Caspian gas pipeline running to around 300 kilometres will be laid from the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijani.
