Kazakh oil will be transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline after launching commercial production at the Kashagan field, KazMunaiGas official Daniyar Berlibayev told Trend on Friday.

"Kazakhstan has never given up the opportunities offered by the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline," Berliabayev said.

He said that according to the rules, only the shareholders of the pipeline project may transport oil via the BTC pipeline.

"When the first oil is supplied from Kashagan, the shareholders of the North-Caspian project (Kashagan), who are also BTC shareholders will start delivering raw materials according to the quotas," he said. But this will not be KazMunaiGas."

BTC Co. shareholders are: BP (30.1 percent); AzBTC (25 percent); Chevron (8.90 percent); Statoil (8.71 percent); ТРАО (6.53 percent); Eni (5 percent); Total (5 percent); Itochu (3.40 percent); Inpex (2.50 percent); ConocoPhillips (2.50 percent); and Amerada Hess (2.36 percent).

The total length of BТС is 1.768 kilometers, including 443 kilometers running via Azerbaijan, 249 kilometers via Georgia and the 1.076 kilometers via Turkey.
Construction began in April 2003 and it was filled with oil on May 18, 2005.

He said expanding BTC was an issue discussed with the Kazakh side.

"Kashagan is under experimental and industrial development," he said.
