Azerbaijan is going to become even more important transit connection between Europe and Central Asia, Richard Morningstar said in his speech at the AmCham (the American Chamber of Commerce) Monthly Members' Luncheon on Friday.

Azerbaijan is going to become even more important transit connection between Europe and Central Asia, Richard Morningstar said in his speech at the AmCham (the American Chamber of Commerce) Monthly Members' Luncheon on Friday.

In his speech he stressed the significant growth of Azerbaijani economy during the past years, as well as expressed the interest in helping the country to diversify economy well beyond the energy sector.

According to Morningstar, the country's economic statistics show a lot of progress, however there are still issues we need to deal with and to work together.

He also expressed the interest in involving more American companies in Azerbaijan.

"I am very much interested in more American companies to be involved here. We are ready to work with the companies to develop the economy," he said.

In his speech Morningstar also stressed Azerbaijan's tremendously important role in Afghanistan.

"We greatly appreciate the fact that Azerbaijan is committed to stay involved in Afghanistan beyond 2014," Morningstar added.

Morningstar stressed the importance of being a member of the WTO (World Trade Organization) for Azerbaijan .

"By becoming a member of the WTO Azerbaijan have to take steps to comply with the WTO requirements which ultimately will be a tremendous benefit for Azerbaijan's economy," Morningstar said.
