Iran has exported roughly $6 billion worth of petrochemical exports in the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year, which began on March 20, said the managing director of the National Petrochemical Company Abdolhossein Bayat.

Abdolhossein Bayat added that the figure is projected to exceed $15 billion by the end of the year, IRIB NEWS reported.

On June 6, Bayat said that Iran plans to increase petrochemical output by 5 million tons to 49 million tons in the current calendar year.

Iran is currently diversifying export markets for petrochemical products, an official with the National Iranian Petrochemical Industries said on September 18.

Ali-Mohammad Bassaqzadeh added that the global economic sanctions, targeting Iran's oil sector, have not been effective and many countries have lined up to buy Iranian petrochemical products, the Shana new agency reported.

Last year, Iran exported 16.2 million tons of petrochemical products to 60 countries around the world.

Europe and China were the main recipients of Iran's petrochemical exports, followed by Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the Subcontinent, Africa and Latin America.
