Turkmenistan's important role in ensuring regional security, particularly in the context of diversification of energy resources supplies to Europe was stressed at Turkmen-German ministerial consultations in Berlin, the Turkmen government said.

'During the talks at the German Foreign Ministry, a meeting was held with the Secretary of State at the Foreign Ministry of Germany Emily Haber, who stressed the important role of Turkmenistan in ensuring regional security and development of trade and economic relations, particularly in the context of diversification of energy resources supplies to Europe', the report says.

The Berlin consultations were held at the level of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan and the Commissioner for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asian Affairs of Germany. The Turkmen delegation was also received by the Office of the Federal Chancellor of Germany.

Germany is noticeably represented in the Turkmenistan oil and gas sector and German companies previously implemented projects such as the construction of plants for the production of lubricating oils and paraffin and cleaning of diesel fuel from water at the Turkmenbashi oil refinery, as well as construction of a gas compressor station in Korpeje.

Cooperation has been established with one of the leading traders of natural gas on the European Union market - RWE, which signed a Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) in a project to develop the offshore fields in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea and transportation of Turkmen gas to Europe.

In April 2009, the Turkmen government signed a memorandum with the company which is a shareholder of the Nabucco Gas Pipeline Project.

Heads and specialists of a number of leading German companies engaged in business in the oil and gas industry and energy, transport and communications, trade and financial sectors, agro-industry as well as in several other sectors of the economy recently visited Ashgabat. Among them are such companies as Bauer Comp Holding AG, Lemken GmbH, John Deer International GmbH and ThyssenKrup AG.
