Turkmenistan to present its position at World Energy Forum in Dubai

Turkmen president Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedow has given specific instructions on participation of state delegation in World Energy Forum 2012, which will be held on October 22-24 in Dubai (UAE), Turkmen government reported on Saturday.

"Stressing once more that provision of energy security is currently an actual issue, Turkmen president gave specific instructions to the vice premier on participation of state delegation in World Energy Forum 2012", the report says.

Turkmen delegation will be headed by the vice premier, the director of state agency of management and use of hydrocarbon resources under the president Yagshigeldi Kakayev.

Further development of global economy, balanced energy policy and provision of energy security will be the key issues during the forum. Up to 2 thousand representatives of governments, international organizations, leading world oil and gas companies and scientific and research centers, authoritative experts are expected to visit Dubai within these days.

Berdimuhamedow stressed that being rich in natural resources, Turkmenistan consequently carries out its energy strategy, aspects of which are increase of production volumes and natural gas export, diversification of supply routes to major world markets, where stable tendency of demand on energy producers is to be seen.

"Turkmen government demonstrates a very responsible attitude toward the issues of international cooperation in energy field, realizing major projects in the fields of multiple choice gas transportation system and presenting its international initiatives in field of global energy security", the report noted.

Turkmenistan's proposals on the establishment of new interregional energy dialogue under auspices of UN with participation of all interested parties, designed to form effective law mechanisms, regulating all range of rights and responsibilities of producers, transit countries and energy resource consumers will be particularly discussed.

Turkmenistan's new proposals, presented for discussion of 67th session of UN General Assembly, are the approval of this active position.

According to British Petroleum reports, the country ranks fourth on its natural gas reserves after Russia, Iran and Qatar. The country is currently exporting natural gas to China, Iran and Russia.

An additional pipeline to Russia (Caspian gas pipeline through Kazakhstan), to Europe (Trans Caspian gas pipeline, as a part of Nabucco and AGRI- through Azerbaijan) and to India (Trans Afghan gas pipeline through Pakistan) are among Turkmenistan's projected gas pipelines.
