The construction of a new complex for the production of aromatic hydrocarbons at the Atyrau refinery should be completed in December 2013, KazEnergy press service said.
"The cost of the project is $1.40 billion. Some 133,000 tons of benzene and 496,000 tons of paraxylene will be produced here. The plant will reach its design capacity by the end of 2013," the company spokesperson said.
The petrochemical complex will use benzene and paraxylene as a feedstock for the production of 1.250 million tons of polyethylene and polypropylene which in turn, are the raw materials for the production of thousands of products from disposable bags and handles, up to products for the automotive and aviation industries.
A single chain of petrochemical plants producing products with a high added value will be created after the production is launched.
'Another major project is the construction of a deep refining complex. Its cost is about $1.800 billion. Term - 41 months. Completion is scheduled for the beginning of 2016', a report says.
Under the project the share of Kazakh content in the purchase of the equipment is 16 per cent, materials - 18 per cent and of services, 35 per cent.
This complex is designed to process 2.400 million tons of raw materials (oil, vacuum gas oil) per year. The deep refining complex will increase the production of gasoline, aviation and diesel fuel.
The construction of the complex for deep processing of oil at the Atyrau refinery by 2016 will increase the reliability of the operation for plant process flow. While processing 5.5 million tons of oil per year, the refinery will annually produce 1.745 million tons of gasoline, 1.64 million tons of diesel oil and 244 tons of jet fuel. Black oil production will be decreased to 193,000 tons. All motor fuel will meet the level of Euro-5.
