Turkey ups expenditure for energy imports

Turkey paid 12.6 per cent more for energy imports for the first nine months of 2012 than in the same period of 2011, the Turkish Statistics Institute's report said today.

This means energy imports cost Turkey $44.2 billion for the reporting period, or 25 per cent of Turkey's total import.

Energy imports to Turkey in January-September 2012 amounted to 70 per cent of the total foreign trade deficit.

Around $30.6 billion of the total energy imports was transferred to the imports of oil and gas with $12.2 billion on imports of petroleum products. Around $161 million was transferred to the purchase of electricity and $1.2 billion were allocated for the import of coal.
