After the new complex on oil and gas, and petrochemicals production of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) reaches full capacity, the work of old processing companies will be stopped, the head of SOCAR's Strategic Development Department Ramiz Aliyev said at the conference on Wednesday.

According to him, the enterprises of the new complex will be put into operation in stages in 2017-2020.

Aliyev said after the enterprises will reach their full capacity, the operating refineries of SOCAR will cease to function.

According to him, the cost of new complex construction is $17 billion. SOCAR and the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan are expected to be the shareholders of the project.

According to Aliyev, the project envisages construction of an oil refinery with a capacity of 10 million tons per year, a gas processing plant with capacity of 10-12 billion cubic meters a year, a a petrochemical production plant and thermal power center with capacity of 250 megawatt.

The gasoline of Euro-5 standard, and other products, corresponding to the world standards will be produced at the complex.

Aliyev noted that this project is very important in terms of energy efficiency, adding that over the past few years, SOCAR has undertaken considerable work on reducing emissions of associated gas of low pressure.

"This work enabled annual capture of associated gas in the shallow part of Guneshli field in the volume of 210 million cubic meters, and in the Oil Rocks field in the volume of 200 million cubic meters," Aliyev said..

In his words, all associated gas from these fields is supplied to the distribution system of the country.

According to Aliyev, some 310 million cubic meters of associated gas were received by SOCAR gas production departments and a number of operating companies and directed to meet the needs of the country's gas system in 2011.
