KazTransGas, Uzbekneftegaz agree to supply gas to southern Kazakhstan

KazTransGas (KTG) and Uzbekneftegaz have agreed to supply gas to the south of Kazakhstan, JSC KazTransGas said on Tuesday.

KazTransGas (KTG) and Uzbekneftegaz have agreed to supply gas to the south of Kazakhstan, JSC KazTransGas said on Tuesday.

'JSC KazTransGas and NHC Uzbekneftegaz discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation during a meeting held in Tashkent. An agreement to supply natural gas to the amount of three billion cubic meters of gas to the southern regions of Kazakhstan is by using the Bukhara-Tashkent-Bishkek-Almaty gas pipeline', the statement said.

The parties also agreed on additional supplies of natural gas through the Turkmenistan-China in a volume of 0.5 billion cubic meters.

'The parties have agreed on the supply of Uzbek gas to China through a gas pipeline Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline. This means JSC KazTransGas will have taken all possible measures to improve the situation of gas supply to the southern region of Kazakhstan and to avoid disruption of gas supply to the population and socially significant buildings of the region during the cold season', the statement said.

According to the information, Kazakhstan must receive three billion cubic meters of Uzbek gas annually from exchange transactions in accordance with the agreement between JSC KazTransGas and Gazprom.

In turn, Uzbekistan supplied only 2.5 billion cubic meters of 'blue fuel' a year which caused a supply shortage in the southern regions of Kazakhstan. Full support for the needs of the southern regions of the country was made possible by the organisation of deliveries of Uzbek gas through the Kazakhstan-China pipeline.
