Volumes of Azerbaijani oil exported via pipelines revealed

According to forecasts, more than 30 million tons of Azerbaijani oil will be transported via Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline by the end of year, a source in oil and gas market told Trend.

According to forecasts, more than 30 million tons of Azerbaijani oil will be transported via Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline by the end of year, a source in oil and gas market told Trend.

Along with Azerbaijani oil, BTC also transports oil from Turkmenistan.

The BТС's total length is 1768 kilometres including a 443-kilometre section running via Azerbaijan, a 249-kilometre section traversing Georgia and a 1076-kilometre section passing through Turkey. The pipeline's construction began in April 2003. The first oil flowed on May 18, 2005.

BTC Co. shareholders include: BP (30.1 per cent); AzBTC (25 per cent); Chevron (8.90 per cent); Statoil (8.71 per cent); ТРАО (6.53 per cent); Eni (5 per cent); Total (5 per cent); Itochu (3.40 per cent); Inpex (2.50 per cent) and ConocoPhillips (2.50 per cent). Hess (2.36 per cent) sold its share to Indian ONGC and the deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2013.

The source said, according to the year totals, some four million tons of oil was transported via Baku-Supsa pipeline.

BP is the operator of Baku-Supsa pipeline.

Export operations are continued to Russia. The source said, according to forecasts by the end of 2012, the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline will transport over two million tons of Azerbaijani oil.

SOCAR is the operator of the pipeline since early 2008, which obtained operator position from the Azerbaijan International Operating Company.

SOCAR's oil is mainly transported via the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline. It is extracted in the onshore and offshore fields by the company at its own funds, as well as stuff of joint enterprises and operational companies with foreign companies extracted over the onshore fields of the country.

In total, SOCAR exported 1.99 million tons of oil in 2011 compared to about 2.24 million tons in 2010.
