The Expo-2017 exhibition in Astana will be provided with electricity from alternative energy sources, Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov said at a government meeting on Tuesday.

"Issues of providing exhibition facilities with energy from renewable sources must be considered in preparation for Expo-2017. I think by 2014 we will have many interesting projects, not only around Astana, but also in Astana," Akhmetov said.

The Prime Minister gave examples from America and Germany, where "solar" roofs have long been used.

"A similar program, a pilot project should be launched in Astana. The regions are not forbidden from adopting the appropriate program," Akhmetov said, recommending not leaving any projects without attention.

The Prime Minister instructed the Ecology and Industry Ministries to complete the adoption of amendments to the law on alternative energy sources and the development of all necessary by-laws together with other interested government agencies by the end of first half of 2013.
