Azerbaijan, Baku, April 15 / Trend E. Kosolapova/

Georgia has no more plans to build an oil refinery in the country, Georgian Deputy Energy and Natural Resources Minister Marika Valishvili told Trend by phone on Monday.

"The State cannot build a refinery with its own funds. We wanted to find an investor for this project, but have not found anyone. So we do not work on this project anymore and this issue is now irrelevant," Valishvili said.

Meanwhile, according to the Deputy Minister, the project's feasibility study has been developed.

"The feasibility study has been prepared including assessment of markets, volumes, potential buyers, and oil suppliers, but it's pretty big project so we will not be able to realize it with our own resources," she said.

According to Valishvili, the Energy Ministry doesn't focus on this project any more and doesn't look for investors. Meanwhile if some company has a will to invest in the oil refinery construction, it will be allowed to implement the project.

Earlier Georgia planned to build an oil refinery in the area of Poti or Supsa ports on the Black sea - the region with infrastructure appropriate for such project. Georgia planed to get oil for the refinery from Central Asian countries - Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, as well as Azerbaijan. The feasibility study of the refinery project was developed by Korean company Daewoo Engineering.
