"Turkmenenergo" state electric power corporation plans to sign a contract for the construction of three small gas turbine power plants with the Turkish company Calik Enerji, the Turkmen president said.

Stations with capacities of 141.7 megawatts will be built in Ak Bugdai Etrap in Akhal; stations with capacities of 149.2 megawatts will be built in Serdarabat Etrap, Lebap and there will be stations with capacities of 146.7 megawatts in Saparmyrat Turkmenbashi settlement in Mary province.

The project will be implemented within the "Concept of Turkmen electric power industry development for 2013-2020" to ensure reliable and uninterrupted supply.

Construction will begin in May 2013. The facilities will be fully commissioned in February 2014.

Calik Enerji has been operating in Turkmenistan for a long time. Last year, the company received a large five-year project for the improvement of the power supply in the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat. The project will be implemented in three stages. Some 60 substations will be connected to the single power grid.

The initiative has attracted subcontractors such as Schneider Electric, Siemens, General Electric, ABB and others that will deliver the equipment needed to carry out the start-up and to train professional staff.

Calik Enerji is an energy company included in Calık Holding, which was founded in the late 1990s. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov recently received the chairman of board of the Turkish holding Ahmet Chalyk in Ashgabat.

Electric power is one of the leading sectors of the Turkmen national economy. Turkmenistan aims to satisfy the electricity needs of Turkmen industry, agriculture, the social sector, as well as increase export volumes.
