Germany increases Azerbaijani oil imports

In January-February 2013, Germany imported about 747,000 tons of Azerbaijani oil compared to 524,000 tons in the same period last year, according to a statement posted on the official website of the representation of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) in Germany.

'During the reporting period, imports of oil from Azerbaijan increased 42 per cent compared to the same period last year', the statement says.

According to the statement, Germany imported 2.15 million tons of Azerbaijani oil only in 2012.

According to SOCAR, Azerbaijan produced 43.4 million tons of oil last year, of which 8.3 million tons accounted for oil produced by SOCAR independently.
SOCAR includes the Azneft production association (company producing oil and gas onshore and offshore), the Azkimya production association (chemical industry) and the Azerigaz production association (gas distribution).

SOCAR, the only producer of oil products in the country with two refineries on its balance sheet, owns petrol stations in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Romania and Switzerland.
SOCAR is co-owner of the largest Turkish petrochemical complex Petkim.
