SOCAR (the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) is designing the second platform of the 'Umid' gas condensate field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, the First Vice-president of SOCAR Khoshbaht Yusifzade told Trend on Thursday.

"Work on this matter is carried out in accordance with the project. The new platform is currently being designed," Yusifzade said.

According to him, work on drilling the second well with the depth of 6,350 meters out of the projected 6500 meters, is being conducted.

SOCAR reported the discovery of the 'Umid' field in 2010. According to SOCAR assessments, the results of drilling of the first exploration well show that the amount of the reserves of the field is more than 200 billion cubic meters of gas and 40 million tons of condensate.

The 'Umid' field is located 75 kilometers from Baku and 40 kilometers from the coast. The first geophysical works were carried out here in 1953. These works were repeated in some improved form in 1972. Nine wells were drilled here from 1977 to 1992 and none of them gave results.
