BP: Turkmenistan increases gas production in 2012

Around 64.4 billion cubic meters of gas were produced in Turkmenistan in 2012 compared to 59.5 billion cubic meters of gas in 2011 or 7.8 percent more than the production volume in 2011, BP's report on World Energy 2013 said.

Turkmenistan's share in the global gas production last year was 1.9 percent. Gas consumption in the country last year amounted to 23.3 billion cubic meters, which is 7.1 percent less than the previous year.

Turkmenistan's proved gas reserves amounted to 17.5 trillion cubic meters in 2012 compared to the 24.3 trillion cubic meters, indicated by BP in 2011.

Oil production in Turkmenistan amounted to 222,000 barrels per day in 2012 compared to 217,000 in 2011, BP's annual review said. The total oil production was 11.0 million tons in Turkmenistan last year, which is 2.5 percent more than in 2011. Turkmenistan's share in the global oil production last year was 0.3 percent.

According to BP estimates, oil consumption in the country increased by 3.3 percent to 100,000 barrels a day in 2012. BP did not change its estimates on proven oil reserves at the level of 0.1 billion tons (0.6 billion barrels) in Turkmenistan in 2012 as in the previous year.
