Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, September 10 / Trend, H. Hasanov /

The volume of electricity generation will amount to 27.4 billion kilowatt hours in Turkmenistan by 2020, the organizers of the industrial exhibition and conference that will be held in Ashgabat said.

From September 12-14, 2013, the VI International exhibition and scientific conference "The Main Directions of the Development of Turkmenistan's Energy Industry - 2013" will be held in Ashgabat. The organizers of the event are Turkmenistan's Energy Ministry and Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Turkmenistan systematically increased its exports of electricity to Iran, Afghanistan and Turkey. It is planned to construct high-voltage lines (Mary-Mashad and Balkanabad-Gondbad.) towards Iran, with an expected capacity of 400 kilovolts in order to increase export potential.

Implementation of this project will open new opportunities for electricity supply to the neighboring Iran and through transit to Turkey. The issue of construction of a high-voltage power line up to Afghanistan with an expected capacity of 500 kilovols is viewed with this aim.

The report said that the capacity of all power stations of Turkmenistan's energy system is 4,151.7 megawatts. The total capacity of modern gas turbine installations is 1,792 megawatt (or 43. percent).

In accordance with the developed strategy of industrial development by 2030, it is planned to bring the level of electricity generation in Turkmenistan to 35.5 kilowatt per hour. In order to achieve this aim, it is planned to construct four gas turbine power stations of combined cycle with total capacity of 1496 megawatt.

Large-scale modernization is expected to befall already running steam turbine installations. The first of the steam turbine energy blocs of the leader of Turkmen energy - Mary Thermal Power Plant was modernized in 2006. Work will be carried out on another 10 energy blocks by 2020, which will increase the capacity by 645 megawatt.

Turkmen power engineers plan to continue the development and modernization of distribution networks; hundreds of millions of dollars were allocated to their implementation in Ashgabat.

It is planned to electrify all, including the most remote parts of the country, to reconstruct distribution networks, transformer substations and construct over 24,000 kilometers of power lines in remote rural areas.

The construction of high-voltage power transmission lines and substations will be continued. The country's energy system will be fully looped with high-voltage overhead transmission lines of 500 kilovolts. it is planned to construct the Balkanabad-Ashgabat-Mary power line of 500 kilovolts by 2020.

It is planned to construct a ring power transmission line of 220 kilovolts in order to increase the sustainability of Ashgabat's energy supply.

It is also planned to construct the Parakhat-Pelvert-Atamyrat line in order to increase the reliability of the energy supply of the Amu Darya's right bank. It is also planned to construct the Mary-Tahtabazar power transmission line of 220 kilovolts in order to provide the "South Eloten", "Gurrukbil", "Garabil fields with energy and to increase exports to Afghanistan.
