Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 19 / Trend, E. Ismayilov /

A carbamide plant will be constructed in Azerbaijan in 2016, head of SOCAR's Azerkimya production association Mukhtar Babayev told Trend on Wednesday.

According to him, the general contractor of the construction project is South Korea's Samsung Engineering Co., Ltd. At this stage, this company together with some licensors producing ammonia and carbamide are preparing the project documentation. It will include the basic requirements for the project and a description of the technological process, as well as technological schemes and additional systems necessary for the carbamide production.

"The territories allocated for the plant construction are under preparation," he added.

According to him, approximately 40-45 percent of the plant's products are expected to be sold on the domestic market. This will fully meet the demand for nitrogen fertilizers in the country.

"The rest of the 400,000 tons per year will be exported," he added.

The new plant will be located in Azerkimya's industrial site in the city of Sumgait. Annual capacity will be about 600,000 tons of carbamide per year (2,000 tons per day) and 1,200 tons of ammonia per day.

Around 500 million euros (excluding taxes) will be allocated from the state budget for the construction of the plant as the construction is envisaged within the state program on providing the population with food in Azerbaijan in 2008-2015. SOCAR also plans to begin constructing a similar plant in Georgia.
