ElectroGas Malta consortium was chosen by Maltese state-owned utility company Enemalta to build a new gas power station and related gas supply infrastructure, Maltese media reported.
German Siemens Project Ventures GmbH will be involved as a leading developer with a 20 per cent share in the project. The other investors are Socar Trading SA with 20 per cent share, UK's Gasol plc with 30 per cent and GEM Holdings Ltd, a group of Maltese investors that includes Gasan and Tumas Group with 30 per cent share.
The winning consortium will convert the Delimara BWSC extension (extension project of Delimara Power Station in the southeast of Malta) to run on natural gas, construct an onshore re-gasification facility and a floating storage unit by 2015.
According to Malta's energy minister Konrad Mizzi, ElectroGas Malta will also provide electricity to Enemalta for 18 years and will procure natural gas at a fixed price for the next five years.
A new gas-operated plant to be built by ElectroGas will generate 200mw of electricity.
A144 MW extension of the Delimara will also be converted to run on gas.
