Georgia increases gas imports from Azerbaijan by over 20 percent

Georgia imported 891,480 tons of natural gas from Azerbaijan in January-September 2013, which amounted to $159.23 million, according to a report from the GruzStat (Georgian National Statistical Service).

Azerbaijan is the main supplier of this kind of fuel to the country with a specific weight of 82.61 per cent of Georgia's total volume of imports in this category. According to the report, in total, Georgia imported $192.74 million worth of natural gas in January-September 2013.

In an annual calculation, the volume of natural gas imported by Georgia from Azerbaijan increased by 20.38 per cent (quantitatively - by 3.4 per cent or 29,450 tons). For comparison: Georgia imported 862,030 tons of fuel from Azerbaijan in the first nine months of 2012 which amounted to $132.27 million.

The specific weight of natural gas amounted to 37.11 per cent in the total volume of imports from Azerbaijan to Georgia during the reported period.

Georgia imported $429.12 million worth of products from Azerbaijan in January-September 2013. The volume of imports from Azerbaijan to Georgia decreased by 9.16 per cent during the reported period compared to the same period of 2012. By comparison Georgia imported $472.37 million worth of products from Azerbaijan in January-September 2012.
