Half recoverable resources fall to offshore fields in Kazakh Mangistau region

Around eight billion tons of recoverable resources fall to offshore deposits in the Mangistau region of Kazakhstan, Akim (Governor) Alik Aidarbayev said in Astana today.

"The development of the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea is extremely important for the country's economy," he said. "Eight of the total projected recoverable resources being 17 billion tons, fall to offshore fields."

He recalled that two-thirds of the waters and coastline of the Kazakh part of the Caspian Sea are located in this area.

"Concrete actions have been taken to develop the coastal infrastructure," he said. "Bases were set up for supporting the offshore oil operations of Agip, KazMunaiGas and Balykshy in the Bautino settlement."
