Turkmenistan exports majority of oil products

Currently, nearly 65 percent of the products produced in the oil refining complex of Turkmenistan are sent for export.

Currently, nearly 65 percent of the products produced in the oil refining complex of Turkmenistan are sent for export, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Turkmenistan said.

"The volume of product exports increases from year to year. The volume of exports amounted to nearly 3.3 million tons only in first nine months of 2013 which is by 2 percent more compared to the same period of 2012," the report said.

Coke produced in Turkmenistan is purchased by Russia, Tajikistan, and Iran. The liquefied gas is shipped to Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Georgia and Armenia. The polypropylene purchasers are Japan, Russia, Turkey, Iran, China and other countries. Base oils are exported to Iran, Italy and Russia.

Two refineries operate in Turkmenistan in Turkmenbashi city of Balkan province and Seidi city of Lebap province. Turkmenistan plans to increase the capacity of the oil refining industry to 15 million tons of oil per year in 2015, 20 million tons of oil in 2020, 22 million tons in 2025 and 30 million tons in 2030.

Currently, the country produces around 10 million tons of oil per year and the significant part of it is refined at local refineries.
