U.S. increases oil imports from Azerbaijan

The U.S. imported 9.37 million barrels of oil from Azerbaijan in January-September 2013 compared to 7.65 million barrels in January-September 2012, according to a statement from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

According to the statement, 2.1 million barrels of Azerbaijani oil was imported by the U.S. in September. In September last year U.S. did not import Azerbaijani oil.

In total the U.S. imported around 8.83 million barrels of oil in 2012, compared to 13.05 million barrels in 2011.

The main route through which Azerbaijani oil is transported is the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline which delivers oil to the Turkish Ceyhan port.

Azerbaijani light oil is also exported from Georgia's Supsa port via the Baku-Supsa pipeline.

Oil is also exported from the Georgian Black Sea Batumi port by rail from Baku, as well as Novorossiysk port via the Baku- Novorossiysk pipeline.
