Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Dec.13
By Huseyn Hasanov- Trend:

The oil tanker "Kenar" built at the Russian "Red Sormovo" shipyard has arrived in Turkmenistan's Turkmenbashi international seaport, the Turkmen television reported.

The tanker is designed for transportation of crude oil and oil products and has been equipped with two engines.

"The tanker has been equipped with about 12 containers isolated from each other allowing transport of various types of fuel in one 20 day voyage," the Turkmen television said.

The length of the tanker exceeds some 140 meters and its capacity (deadweight) amounts to 7,100 tons.

It was reported in March that the State Service of Maritime and River Transport of Turkmenistan and "Red Sormovo" will sign a contract for the construction and purchase of two "river-sea" vessels for the transport of oil and oil products with capacity of 7.1 tons each.

Earlier, the Russian company said that the technical and economic parameters of the vessels proposed to Turkmenistan were improved. The control facilities have been automated and the falling of oil products into the sea in case of emergency has been completely ruled out. The safe working conditions of the crew in all modes of operation of the vessel have been worked out. All this allows these vessels to work in specific environmental areas, which is particularly important for the fragile ecosystem of the Caspian Sea.

The Russian company has been cooperating with Turkmenistan for four years and has built four oil tankers for this country. The last tanker was delivered to Turkmenistan in May 2012.

The "Ceyhun" tanker built for Turkmenistan in 2010, was included in the list of "Significant ships of 2010" by the British Royal Institution of Naval Architects.
