The Turkmengaz state concern has been authorised to sign a contract with Dresser-Rand S.A. (French Republic), with its equity according to a presidential decree.

What is at issue is buying three sets of equipment for gas supply in a kit with spare parts for two years, monitoring the installation and commissioning work and specialists' training.

According to the document, this will help to fulfil the committments of the country's gas industry and to provide the East-West gas pipeline with the necessary equipment in accordance with the programme for development of Turkmenistan's oil and gas industry until 2030.

Turkmenistan is one of the key players in the energy market of the Caspian Sea region and Central Asia. In accordance with the programme for the development of oil and gas industry, it is planned to bring natural gas production to 250 billion cubic meters in 2030 and the majority of this is being considered for export.

Turkmenistan commissioned its largest field Galkynysh in 2013 with an initial capacity of 30 billion of marketable gas per year.

According to Gaffney, Cline & Associates (Great Britain), this field is the second largest in the world for its reserves. Experts believe the field covers a total area of 1800 square metres.

It is expected that in the long term this gas fireplace will be able to supply all existing and projected gas pipelines from Turkmenistan. With this aim, the East-West gas pipeline running to an 800 kilometre length is under construction in the country.

Some eight compressor stations will be constructed within the implementation of the project. Engineering-geological and topographical works are already complete and construction is being accelerated. It is planned to commission it in 2015.
