Phase 12 of Iran's South Pars gas field located in the Persian Gulf , is ready to produce 25 million cubic meters of gas per day, the Tasnim News Agency reported on January 13.

The first platform of Phase 12 will be operational once climate conditions in the Persian Gulf become calm enough.

Phase 12 which is the largest phase of the Iranian section of the South Pars gas field is now 92.9 percent complete both in onshore and offshore sections.

On December 21, 2013, IRNA quoted Phase 12 development project manager Rasoul Fallahnejad as saying that Iran will start injecting natural gas from its South Pars gas field to the national network in February.

Some 25 million cubic meters of natural gas will be fed to onshore refineries by Friday, he added.

South Pars is a joint gas field for Iran and Qatar. The field on the Iranian side holds 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and has been divided into 29 phases, Phases 1 to 8 have been developed completely, Phases 9 and 10 has been operating, but not to full capacity and Phases 11 to 29 are under construction.

The Phase 12 is projected to yield 81 million cubic meters of sour gas, 120,000 barrels of gas condensates and 750 tons of sulphur per day.

Once Phase 12 comes on stream, it will generate a $10-$11 billion income annually for the country, he said, adding that $6.5 billion has already been invested in the Phase 12 development project.

On October 7, IRNA quoted Deputy Director of Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company, Amir Saeid Najafi as saying that Iran will inaugurate Phase 12 of the South Pars gas field in the first half of the next Iranian calendar year which starts on March 21, 2014.
