The PetroKazakhstan Oil Products Company owned by Kazakh KazMunaiGas and Chinese CNPC on a parity basis and China's СРЕСС signed a contract to build a naphtha isomerization unit at the Shymkent refinery, according to KazMunaiGas refining and marketing.

The construction of the naphtha isomerization unit at the refinery will be implemented in accordance with the complex plan for the development of Kazakh plants as well as under the state programme for the accelerated industrial and innovative development of the country, according to the company.

The implementation of the first start-up complex envisages the construction of naphtha isomerization unit with a capacity of 600,000 tons per year which will allow a reduction of the impact on the environment. This will take place by improving the process of production of high-octane gasoline and use of modern technology in production, the company said.

It is expected that in this way, in 2016 the Shymkent refinery will move to the production of qualitative and safe high-octane gasoline complying with K4 and K5 ecological classes in accordance with the requirements of the technical regulations of the Customs Union.

"The company licensor said that the construction of isomerization designed for Shymkent refinery, is high-tech and meets the latest requirements of world standards," first vice-president of PetroKazakhstan Oil Products Asylbek Karibaev said.

It is planned to complete the construction of the naphtha isomerization unit in 2015.
