In the first days of devaluation, the Agency on the Protection of Competition of the Republic of Kazakhstan together with akims (heads of local governments) has to keep the prices of petroleum and socio-significant goods under control, chair of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Kelimbetov noted at the governmental meeting of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Feb. 12.

"We would like to ask local executive bodies to pay attention especially to gasoline prices," K. Kelimbetov said.

The head of the National Bank highlighted that in the first days after devaluation, the work of those bodies in economic block and the National Bank is very important.

"Unfortunately, some dishonest suppliers have surfaced and they think that if the monetary direction changed by 20 percent, then prices will also have to change," K. Kelimbetov noted.

He mentioned that when devaluation was conducted in 2009, the inflation rate did not exceed six percent. For this reason, as the head of the National Bank considered, keeping inflation in a range of six to eight percent is an achievable task.
