Turkmen oil transportation via BTC grows

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline which exports most of the oil produced in Azerbaijan, transported around 488.3 thousands tons of Turkmen oil in January compared to 196.4 thousands tons in January 2013, the Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee told Trend on Feb.17.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline which exports most of the oil produced in Azerbaijan, transported around 488.3 thousands tons of Turkmen oil in January compared to 196.4 thousands tons in January 2013, the Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee told Trend on Feb.17.

Some 3.3 million tons of Turkmen oil was transported via BTC in 2013 compared to 3.1 million tons in 2012.

"Some 488.3 thousands tons of transit Turkmen oil was transported from the Sangachal Terminal via the BTC pipeline last month," the state committee said.

Turkmen oil is transported via the BTC under a contract between SOCAR Trading and Dragon oil, producing oil in Turkmenistan.

Transportation of Turkmen oil via the BTC began in July 2010.

SOCAR Trading buys and transports oil from producers in Turkmenistan across the Caspian Sea to the BTC entrance flange at the Sangachal Terminal in Baku. The BTC Co. then transports the oil via BTC to SOCAR Trading at the Mediterranean port of Ceyhan, in Turkey.

BTC Co. shareholders are: BP (30.1 percent), AzBTC (25 percent), Chevron (8.9 percent), Statoil (8.71 percent),ТРАО (6.53 percent), Eni (five percent), Total (five percent), Itochu (3.4 percent), Inpex (2.5 percent), ConocoPhillips (2.5 percent) and ONGC (2.36 percent)

BTC's pumping capacity is 1.2 million barrels of oil per day.
