China National Petroleum Corporation commissioned a Gas Processing Plant in the Lebap region, Turkmenistan on the cleaning of raw materials, which will transport fuel in specified volumes in China, according to a source close to the energy sector of Turkmenistan.

The capacity of the new company is about nine billion cubic meters of gas per year. The project cost is estimated at more than $ 600 million.

CNPC carries out the development of Bagtyyarlyk in accordance with the Production Sharing Agreement signed with the State Agency for Management and Use of Hydrocarbon Resources under the President of Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan is China's major gas supplier in Central Asia. The pipeline was commissioned through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in December 2009. The project was China's first energy corridor designed to import foreign natural gas.

The design capacity of the Central-Asian gas pipeline is 30 billion cubic meters. It was built by CNPC. This allowed Turkmenistan to expand its sales markets limited by the supplies to Russia and Iran. Ashgabat and Beijing recently agreed to raise the total capacity to supply up to 65 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
